The days of her famed discoveries behind her, she now hunts for common fossils to sell to rich tourists to support herself and her ailing widowed mother. When one such tourist, Roderick Murchison, arrives in Lyme on the first leg of a European tour, he entrusts Mary with the care of his young wife Charlotte, who is recuperating from a personal tragedy. Mary, whose life is a daily struggle on the poverty line, cannot afford to turn him down but, proud and relentlessly passionate about her work, she clashes with her unwanted guest. They are two women from utterly different worlds. Yet despite the chasm between their social spheres and personalities, Mary and Charlotte discover they can each offer what the other has been searching for: the realisation that they are not alone. It is the beginning of a passionate and all-consuming love affair that will defy all social bounds and alter the course of both lives irrevocably.

ATTENTION TO ALL CREATIVE MINDS

17/1/2021

ATTENTION TO ALL CREATIVE MINDS:
photographers, designers, writers, models, artists, stylists, MUAHs, artistic directors and others alike:
there is the challenge described:
PIACERANCE
is the key word for the upcoming issue.
translated as
n. the experience of hearing a song for the very first time that stops you in your tracks, your ears perked to the immaculate composite of lyrics, melody, harmony, and chord changes as if each constituent part was given life with you and your narrative in mind, and now eternally stored in your medial pre-frontal cortex so that years from now when you walk into a coffee shop and hear it again, you will immediately see the associated person, place or memory of your past self in your mind’s eye, autobiographical details more vivid than ever.
As an "opposer" to John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
there is a new source of "words" in the DICTIONARY OF PERCEPTIBLE JOYS. The owner and the creator of these words in his own expression "is taking to the same spirit of John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, [he] builds the words by combining other words that mean something similar etymologically (in English and in other languages). [The author's] hope is to define and characterize feelings and emotions that others may relate to.
As the American lexicographer Erin McKean finely put it, “If you love a word, use it - that makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an arbitrary distinction; it doesn’t make a word any more real than any other way. If you love a word, it becomes real. [He is] just creating words for those pleasures in [his] own life that have yet to be spelled out in a single, operative word" which is true as from the other side, the dead words are those we never use.
ANNOUNCING COMPETITION
on the best concept / style photograph or set of photographs that will fit into the category "PIACERANCE" with the focus on HANDPICKED AND EYE CATCHING.
We publish the best photos in the next 2021 issue of MARQUIS FASHION MAGAZINE
The due date for submission is 1 February 2021 1200pm
The works of art should be sent in the form of a direct dropbox link or direct wetransfer link with the full list of credits and your story of inspiration to accompany it
to natasha.marchev@gmail.com or in PM.
Your photos should be a highly acclaimed art in fashion - each image should be like a part of a collective story for the magazine pages therefore making it more readable for everyone who opens it.
good luck!

Yet despite this, chronic disease is still the major cause of illness and mortality worldwide. Drawing on the expertise of Prof. Kerryn Phelps and dietitian Jaime Rose Chambers, The Doctor and The Dietitian explain the role food plays in protecting your body against disease. Focusing on the brain, gut and heart, there are more than 100 recipes to help you on your way to better health.

The film explores the incredible challenges and struggles that were buried deep beneath the glamour of chart-topping hits with the hottest local and international talent – rifts between artists, unpaid tax debts, feelings of failure and betrayal – and the immeasurable musical legacy that was created in spite of this. Featuring some of New Zealand’s biggest hip-hop and RnB artists including Savage, Mareko, Adeaze and Aaradhna, DAWN RAID is an inspirational, heart pounding celebration of local home grown talent who not only gave a voice to their local community, but paved the way for a future generation of artists.

Inviting you to watch a new crime drama called @Only The Animals
Based on Colin Niel’s taut 2018 novel of the same name, the gripping thriller Only the Animals by director Dominik Moll (AF FFF06, Lemming) ducks and weaves across different time periods and geographical borders – from Africa to Europe – as the truth behind a woman’s mysterious death is uncovered. Set in an isolated town in the lush, wintery mountains of Southern France, the film opens with the departure of Évelyne (played by director and actress Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, AF FFF19, The Summer House), a local woman who has been murdered after going missing during a snowstorm. With echoes of Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece Rashomon, Évelyne’s death reveals the hidden agendas of several locals, setting into motion the unexpected.
As these different perspectives are gradually teased out, the extent people will go to for love is revealed, including Alice (Laure Calamy, also in Sibyl playing at this year’s Festival); her husband, Michel (Denis Ménochet, AF FFF18, Custody); and her lover, Joseph (Damien Bonnard, from the Opening Night film for AF FFF19, The Trouble with You); as well as Évelyne’s lover, Marion (Nadia Tereszkiewicz). With so many secrets, deciding who to believe proves as difficult as uncovering the killer’s identity. Only the Animals is a unique mystery built on not just the crime but also the threads and enigmas of the human heart.
