8 PERFORMANCES ONLY in Melbourne this season!
Directed by Kris Weber
Cast: Marti Ibrahim, Travis Handcock, Gabriella Mazzarino, Rachel Clayton, Stephanie King.
Did you know that one in six couples struggle with fertility?
Familial fractures, pain, loss and the desperate need for a child are the bases of award winning play, Water Child, by Australian playwright, Emma Wood, and directed by Kris Weber, opening September.
Jeannie and Mark are dynamic, intelligent and capable. Their marriage is happy and balanced, their careers bloom. They are successful, confident, fulfilled. Or that’s how it appears. But unlike family and friends, who have effortlessly brought children into the world, they have not.
Jeannie’s 40th birthday, a night planned for celebration, leads them to an abyss which threatens to engulf them and all they have built together. Family and friends weigh in with well-meant but not always well worded advice – but what to say when no one knows why you can’t do what everyone else can? And when it’s too hard to talk about it at all? And how do you prevent two people who are mired in shame, sorrow and panic pushing you away?
One in six couples struggle with fertility. And yet the subject remains taboo. Award winning Australian play Water Child offers a rare glimpse into the myriad of difficulties faced by so many – and talked about by so few.
"Emma Wood's Water Child is a very personal journey that is written with both humour and pathos," says director, Kris Weber. " It is a powerful and poignant tale that reflects the hardship of many couples who so desperately want to become parents. It also honours the children lost to miscarriage as well as giving us a sensitive perspective on the pain and sorrow involved with that loss from both parent's perspective."
Kris Weber is an actor and director in the Melbourne theatre scene whose recent productions include: Killing Jeremy, The Dixie Swim Club, The Other Place, Almost Maine and Death and the Maiden. Kris is extremely honoured to be directing Emma Wood's Victorian premiere of Water Child.
#EmmaWood is an award-winning playwright, actor and director whose lifelong passion for theatre has extended to acting, directing, and writing plays. Water Child was born of personal experience and a growing awareness of the widespread but often silent suffering of those who struggle with fertility. Another motivation was to write strong and passionate roles for women of all ages. She is pleased to bring back Pawprint Productions, a company she and her husband created in Ballarat in 2005, producing four successful productions over their two years there.

Thanks to our friends at #KrisWeberPR Bohemian Rhapsody Club and Online Magazine will be covering the opening night (media: Bryanna Reynolds at Reynolds Sister Productions) Please stay tuned for more information

i guess this is not that time of the year to mention "ice cream" of any kind (or anything to do with "ice") but the flavours at Mövenpick Ice Cream / Movenpick Melbourne Central are so unbelievably divine it is hard not to say "Si" - that's sampling I guess - and it is on the go:
BTW, your Entertainment Book has two vouchers for the triple and double baskets and they will be half price - just check the pages and love your ice cream too no matter what the season is: https://www.entertainmentbook.com.au/orderbooks/182v887
on the pictures below - sorry , we partially destroyed ours and there is also a nice watercolor picture of the puppy from the talented girl, the artist who was sitting next to us and who was very keen to share her album:

Entertainment Book special yesterday: lunch at Tgi Fridays Southland / TGI Fridays

the chicken is not meant to be boring at all with that superb Jack Daniel's sauce which we both love - it is slightly turning into a tradition I believe with Natasha A for TGIs plus their mash is un-copy-able not mentioning the beans cooked to the perfection. I loved the company and our meal so did my friend
lunch: $30 for two

Exploring the narrative embedded in Bach's cello suites, Cook & Co continues to break the mould. In addition to the glorious music, ranging from the much loved Prelude in G to the jubilant Gigue in D, a series of dramatic vignettes provides glimpses into the life of an aspiring musician, Dulcie. We meet Dulcie as she returns from study in Europe, moves into a bedsit above an inner-Melbourne shop and endeavours to establish a career as a professional musician. Starring cellist, Josephine Vains and actor, Leah Filley, and bought to us by the creative vision of acclaimed pianist and artistic director, Janis Cook, Suite Life promises to be another success on the Melbourne arts scene.

The Artists: Josephine Vains, one of Australia’s most engaging and sought-after cellists, has performed on concert stages throughout Europe, North America, Asia and the Caribbean. Currently performing with Firebird Trio, Accademia Arcadias, Australian Octet and Kammermusik, she also teaches at Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, the Monash University Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. Actor, Leah Filley, grew up in Melbourne and has recently returned from studying at the Actors Studio in New York.

She was part of a year long tour with the National Players in the USA playing Lady Macbeth as well as performing in Comedy of Errors, The Odyssey, The Tempest and a feature film of King Lear. She performed and co-wrote a short film adaptation of Julius Caesar, ‘We are ROM3’, which has been selected for several short film festivals internationally. Creative and Artistic Director, Janis Cook, enjoyed a long association with the MSO as principal pianist, following years touring as a repetiteur for the Australian Ballet Company. In addition to performing and teaching engagements, she established Cook & Co in 2008 to foster collaborative music performances and once again brings a unique chamber music fusion piece for Melbourne audiences.

The performance will be followed by complimentary refreshments in the precinct Gallery. Transport: tram route 75 or 78 / free street parking from 5pm. Tickets are on sale now at: https://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=281899 *Early bird and series discounts are available.

ABOUT
Provoking and inspiring, Melbourne Festival seeks to connect art forms, people and ideas. At the heart of Melbourne's culture of creativity, we curate unique experiences that bring people together and break new ground in culture and the arts.
Melbourne Festival is one of Australia's leading international arts festivals and has an outstanding reputation for presenting unique international and Australian events in the fields of dance, theatre, music, visual arts, multimedia, free and outdoor events over 17 days each October.

First staged in 1986 under the direction of composer Gian Carlo Menotti it became the third in the Spoleto Festival series—joining Spoleto, Italy, and Charleston, United States. Known as Spoleto Melbourne – Festival of the Three Worlds, the Festival changed its name to the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts in 1990. In 2003, the Festival was renamed Melbourne International Arts Festival, and is now commonly known as Melbourne Festival.

Cinema Nova and Cardinal Spin Publicity invite you to
Arab Film Festival Australia 2017

DATES: 17/08/2017 - 03/09/2017
LOCATION: Cinema Nova 380 Lygon St, Carlton VIC 3053
WEB: http://arabfilmfestival.com.au/

Growing side by side with the international renaissance of Arab screen culture and film production, the Arab Film Festival Australia showcases the resurgence of Arab filmmaking and storytelling by screening high quality films that would not otherwise be seen by Australian audiences. The Festival thus provides an invaluable regional, state and national platform for these films to be seen.

The Arab Film Festival Australia also aims to address contemporary misrepresentations of Arab peoples and cultures by reflecting the complexity and diversity of Arab experiences, and providing a critical space presenting alternative representations of Arab subjects, cultures and narratives on screen. A community-managed cultural event, the Festival supports freedom of thought, expression and information, as well as diversity of screen media to enable democratic cultural expression to flourish.
