Mary Setrakian is internationally recognised by singers, actors and directors as one of the best voice teachers in the world. Mary coaches the stars of Hollywood and Broadway including Nicole Kidman, Sierra Boggess, Forest Whitaker, Kate Winslet, Kerry Washington and Bella Thorne. Disney regularly calls upon her to teach the leads & ensemble of their Broadway and touring companies. With her phenomenal expertise behind her, Mary is now working to give every-day Australians - professional performers and secret shower singers alike - the permission to be heard and to help them discover the full potential of their voice. Mary is about to begin her 'Let the Sun Shine' Australia Tour while also finishing her long-awaited book. Mary's purpose is to share everything she has learned on her journey with the world, that means “the guy who’s embarrassed because he can never sing Happy Birthday on pitch – the woman who loved to sing back in high school, but is too busy (or shy) to try it again – the executive who sings his heart out in the shower – the performer who has a great voice but can’t get a job on Broadway – and the artist who is AT the top but wants to go the extra mile”. Everyone has a voice. Everyone is unique. Everyone has something very important to share.
Her tour begins on 9 July 2019 with a massive public singing lesson in Sydney. The dream is to get 800 people together in one room - singers, police officers, actors, politicians, nurses, teachers, students, electricians, journalists and accountants. Imagine if we could teach every one of those people how to breathe. How to connect their voice, their body, and their emotions. Imagine if we could get this group of people to laugh together. To cry together. To sing together. At the risk of sounding a bit cheesy... That could change the world.
So being cheesy is what this evening and Mary's tour is all about. It is about the joy of singing. It’s about connecting. It’s about "helping every person reach their absolute potential". Mary's quote, made famous by her student Sierra Boggess, "You are enough. You are so enough. It's unbelievable how enough you are" is such a clear reflection of Mary's teaching style, her performances and her interactions with each and every person who comes into contact with her. The testimonials written by Mary's students do not say " Mary improved my singing", they say "Mary changed my life". Mary has starred on Broadway and in National Tours of some of the biggest shows in history including Phantom of the Opera, Hello, Dolly! and Les Miserables. When Mary was 17 years old she had a speaking part in a US-made documentary about the Sydney Opera House. One of her lines was "I'd like to see what it looks like on the inside" and from then on it has been Mary's dream to see inside and perform at the Sydney Opera House. Since the universe works in a mysterious and wonderful way, Mary will be performing her critically-acclaimed one-woman show at the Sydney Opera House on 28 July.
Mary is holding workshops and concerts with Australians in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane between 9 July and 10 September 2019. For more information about Mary and her tour, please feel free to contact me or refer to her website - www.marysetrakian.com/australia-vocal-training
