CONVERGENCE – An Exploration of Artistic Unity
Is there a common thread between art, jewellery and lifestyle garments? Perth creatives, abstract artist Caroline Christie-Coxon, Giroud founder, Melissa Giroud-Cook, and designer of Keiko Uno Jewellery, Keiko Uno, explore the unity of self-expression and their desire to enact positive change through their medium.
‘CONVERGENCE’ is a celebration of creative collaboration; a desire to create a wearable path to self-expression; a vision for style that is liberated and unconventional. The core of Christie-Coxon’s established art practice is ‘to facilitate the natural expression of paint through unconventional techniques. My process-driven style liberates and expands the dialogue of paint, inviting the viewer to tap into the part of us that experiences life beyond words, transcending definitions and into the unique and powerful experience of visual language.’
‘Since meeting Giroud-Cook, I’ve been intrigued by her vision of offering clients personal input into what they wear. This freedom to express and create one off wearable pieces aligns with the fundamentals of understanding abstract art, which requires only an open mind - there is no right or wrong way, which is pure liberation’, says Christie-Coxon. Giroud believes in the power of ‘slow fashion’, wearing considered garments that speak about who you are and are loved and celebrated beyond the now. ‘Couture gives clients certain freedoms, but most houses can’t cater to client requests for customised prints and technical fabric. We all lead unique lives, so aquiring garments made for the individual makes sense’, says Giroud–Cook.
Giroud prides itself on sourcing the world’s best technical fabrics and working with her skilled team in Mosman Park to create made to order garments that are just at ease in the water, yoga studio as they are worn out with a pair of heels and jewellery. ‘Giroud created active wear that fits me and my lifestyle perfectly. It’s not only comfortable for yoga, but has SPF50 protection so practical for skin diving and playing on the beach with my daughter, and incorporates opulent velvet detailing to look and feel great’, says luxury ocean motif jewellery designer, Uno.
‘CONVERGENCE’ showcases Giroud-Cook active wear infused with vivid panels of Christie-Coxon’s limited edition art and paired with Uno’s bespoke jewellery to create a vision celebrating liberation and the individual. ‘CONVERGENCE’ will be held at Old Cloisters, Caroline Christie-Coxon Art Gallery, 200 St George’s Terrace, Perth, on Thursday 24 October, 5:30 – 7:30pm. Entry is free, but guests must register: https://www.trybooking.com/BGASV
