About the fundraiser:

About Me
I am, 31 years of age and experienced my own hardships during high-school and early university years, in particular extensive bullying and manic Depression. I am a survivor of several suicide attempts, when i was at my weakest however, in particular, the last 9 years dedicated my time advocating and working closely with individuals and community groups that require that extra assistance, whether it be something simple as being reachable and just listening to them vent. At the completion of high-school I started volunteering in a Federal Member of Parliaments electorate office, as it became my passion and felt was my responsibility to become a public-servant. I got to experience first-hand the extensive work that such public figures do behind the scenes to ensure that their community members are receiving the best of the services possible. After a short period of volunteering in such an environment, I realised that I needed to become more active and continue to assist making a difference where ever/whenever she could. My dreams became reality when I was offered a part time position in 2007, which lead to a permanent full time roll as an Adviser in 2009. During my 9 years in the public services sector, I've worked and assisted on such projects which included;
- advocating and successfully opening of Headspace in Dandenong.
- assisted to put together a forum with ABC-Four corners, whom in particular the Hon. Anthony Byrne MP advocated for, to raise awareness after losing several teens to suicide in just a few months apart, in the electorate and surroundings.
- worked closely with Orygyn Health to advocate Mental Health and demolish the stigma that still continues to grow.
- advocated on behalf of individuals/families/community groups who needed representation on matters to government agencies, with most cases successfully concluded.
- worked closely with newly migrated community groups to educate and provide them with guidance to strengthen their community and adjusting Australian.
- spoken at several multicultural women’s networks including interfaith groups on matters/issues that they are requiring either guidance or assistance with.
Above are the few things that I have actively participated in. The main reason for me deciding to be a part of the 2018 Mrs Australia Globe, is to be a voice and use my privileges to continue to be a public servant, to all people from all walks of life. I live by my saying and refer to it each day: “Never judge a soul, lend a hand where you can, pick up someone who has fallen, and unify. Unity and people power cannot be purchased but felt within your heart and soul, then comes the changes we all thought were never possible.” - Arzum Caglayancay
I have chosen to support ‘Project Karma’ and ‘Life-line’ as her choice of charity throughout my title. ‘Project Karma’ is a charity that is close to my heart. Child prostitution and displacement of women/ families is still a topic of social neglect. It is a global matter that all humans are aware of however, the stigma of not wanting to know it exists is still very strong. ‘Life-Line’ is also a choice of charity as it has been a service that assisted me assisted me get to where i am today. The volunteers never gave up on me, when i gave up o myself. I pledge with you today, please open your heart and remember, people power is the greatest of ll powers.
