Today's review of the composer's on album
1. The Luminous Pearl
review by Olga Tolkatcheva
‘The luminous pearl”, Lia Scallon’s award-winning CD album, has a subtitle: Songs of Mystery, Beauty and Light, and it describes it perfectly.
The first thing that strikes me is the beautiful design of this album. The CD cover opens like a little book. There is a mystical story about ‘The legendary luminous Pearl” or the “Dragon Pearl”, a sacred crystal representing wisdom, truth and a life force of creation. We can read a touching message from Lia herself – a wish that these songs awaken the luminous pearl of love within our soul.
I have been listening to this CD for a few nights and I am falling in love with it. I can have it playing in the car while going for a drive, have it as a background music at a party, or listen just before the bed for a better peaceful sleep.
I love the fact that all songs have a different arrangement. Some songs have piano as the main accompaniment, some violin and some flute. The percussions are important: The sound of a rhythmic drum, whispering wind, chime and water is very relaxing.
Some of the songs are interlaced with mesmerizing incantations. My favourite songs have the deep vibration of the didgeridoo solo; it definitely speaks to my inner dreamer.
The album conveys a mix of influences: Chinese, Indigenous, Maori, Celtic, but it goes beyond the culture – and into the connection of the human soul with the energy and spirit of cosmos and nature.
Lia’s ethereal voice is weaving a magic pattern, translucent clear and free-flowing, and puts the listener is a meditative state. We can read about the healing power of sound – the very effective way to bring the human system back into balance, and this music is a testament to that notion.
Lia Scallon, originally from Ireland, now lives in tropical Queensland. She was a professional actress before discovering her singing talent and creative expression through music and now she is an award-winning composer, producer and singer.
This CD is a fantastic gift idea. The music is exquisite and easy to listen, the message is meaningful and full of love, and it is wonderfully done and absolutely beautiful to look at.
It made me want to find the rest of Lia’s music. We can find her songs at
