Those looking to attend the Tesselaar Tulip Festival will be happy to know that it is only one hour’s drive from the Melbourne CBD. This popular yearly event is renowned for its amazing display of tulip flowers and interactive exhibits. You will come across a variety of tulip species from all over the world so come and explore over half a million tulips at the wonderful Tesselaar Tulip Festival.
This unique festival is held at the Tesselaar Nursery in Silvan which is one of the many suburbs nestled within the Dandenong Ranges. Apart from the wonderful flower display, this festival also showcases live entertainment, a multicultural food exhibition and a sculpture display. The festival is home to over 40 nurseries and plant growers where you can shop for a huge range of plants, both large and small. Come and gather information from their resident experts with many gardening talks and demonstrations whilst gathering inspiration for your own garden.
The festival also features a number of cultural events, music shows, authentic food, folk dance shows and a number of entertainment programs and activities. Sample an assorted variety of regional food and wine while enjoying an array of music and dance shows. Whilst visiting the festival, make sure to check out the historic Tesselaar Gardens where you will discover a beautiful garden filled with roses, lilies and perennials, including newly released varieties to explore and enjoy.
There is a range of food and refreshments on offer or you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the gardens. Dogs on leads are welcome. Local Scouts offer a plant crèche that will store purchases and deliver them to your car for just a gold coin donation. The delightful Dandenong Ranges Yarra Valley region provides a stunning backdrop for this unmissable event. This area is home to a number of magnificent gardens to visit over the weekend.
Tickets can be purchased online, or at the gate. If you purchase your tickets online, then you must print them and they can be used for one admission on any day. Tickets on mobile phones will not be accepted. You can drive to the festival which is around 60kms from Melbourne. Alternatively, get on a Lilydale bound train from Melbourne CBD and alight at Lilydale Station. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be shuttle buses which will depart 5 minutes after the train arrives and costs $3 for a return ticket. During the week, board the #663 bus which will take you to the festival.
