Zelman Symphony Orchestra Concert
Saturday 28 March 2015, 8.00pm – Bookings Now Open
at Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre,
Xavier College College, Barkers Road, Kew
Prepare to be blown away by Roman Ponomariov, Horn and Selena Pettifer mezzo-soprano.
This concert features perhaps the greatest horn concerto written in modern times. It concludes with Brahms' acclaimed first Symphony – after 21 years and numerous drafts, Brahms concluded that it was finally a worthy successor to Beethoven’s symphonies.
Richard Strauss' first horn concerto was written for his father, one of the great horn players of his time, who never played it, claiming it was too difficult for him. Our soloist will be Roman Ponomariov. Roman last performed with Zelman Symphony in 2006 alongside the legendary Barry Tuckwell.
The new Dreyfus work is based on a text by Charles Hamilton Sorley (1895-1915). We are honoured to have been invited by George to premiere his tribute to the fallen as we commemorate the centenary of the ANZACs at Gallipoli.
Mark Shiell will present a pre-concert talk in the auditorium commencing 7.30pm.
