Dani (Florence Pugh) and Christian (Jack Reynor) are a young American couple with a relationship on the brink of falling apart. But after a family tragedy keeps them together, a grieving Dani invites herself to join Christian and his friends on a trip to a once-in-a-lifetime midsummer festival in a remote Swedish village. What begins as a carefree summer holiday in a land of eternal sunlight takes a sinister turn when the insular villagers invite their guests to partake in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing

The Public

23/8/2019

Rialto AU and #NedAndCoPublicity invite you to watch a new drama called the public
in cinemas currently
In "the public" an unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place. The story revolves around the library patrons, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill and marginalized, as well as an exhausted and overwhelmed staff of librarians who often build emotional connections and a sense of obligation to care for those regular patrons. At odds with library officials over how to handle the extreme weather event, the Patrons turn the building into a homeless shelter for the night by staging an "Occupy" sit in. What begins as an act of civil disobedience becomes a stand off with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what's really happening. This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation's most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.

Cook and Co new concert

#CookAndCo musicians present a new concert
SARNIA DREAMING
DATE: September 12, 2019
LOCATION: David Williamson Theatre - St. John Street, 54 St John Street, Prahran, 3181 (just off Chapel Street). A meet and greet over refreshments will follow each performance.
WEBSITE: https://www.cookandco.com.au/category/events/
TICKETS: Contact: Artistic Director, Janis Cook[email protected] 0428480743
It is when Cook & Co. turns chamber music events upside down!
In this creative montage, Cook & Co. explores music written in response to the rugged beauty and rich history of the Channel Islands. Sarnia is the ancient Roman name for the Isle of Guernsey. Flute: Andrew Macleod; Bassoon: Brock Imison; Piano: Janis Cook.
Since 2008, Janis Cook has invited a wide selection of professional colleagues to join with her in the presenta-tion of a range of innovative chamber music events. The 2017 Connections series was a triumph of cross-genre engagement that incorporated elements of visual art, literature, dance and acting to heighten the musical experience. “Unusual and intri-guing...the audience was carried away.” BRC. 2018 saw the imaginative Map series, featuring classics, recent compositions and a touch of cabaret. This year, the flip’d events present curated chamber programmes which explore musical expression within a new framework. These presentations which are designed to be communi-cative, affordable and engaging vehicles for music-making.
Andrew MacLeod,
Principal Piccolo of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2003, has appeared as a soloist on numerous occasions, including the world premiere of
Paul Stanhope’s Concerto for Piccolo Flute: released on the MSO Live label in 2014 and nominated for an ARIA.Andrew has played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Malaysian Phil-
harmonic, the Auckland Philharmonia, the Tasmanian and Queensland Symphony Orchestras, and the Australian World Orchestra. Originally from Brisbane, Andrew holds several degrees including a Master of Philosophy in Music from the University of Queensland. Together with James Kortum, Lecturer in Flute at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Andrew conducts an annual retreat at Macedon, “The Complete Flute,” for talented flute students Australia
-wide.
Brock Imison
has held the position of Principal Contrabassoon with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2004. Born in Brisbane, Brock began playing the Bassoon at age 13 and completed his studies at the QLD Conservatorium Music School.
Recently he has been a guest principal bassoonist for the Maribor festival in Slovenia and in August 2011 he was a member of the Australian World Orchestra for its inaugural season in Sydney. Brock strives to improve the profile of the Contrabassoon, premiering new music in solo recitals, arranging chamber music and hosting workshops for composers to learn more about the instrument. In 2008 he toured as soloist with the MSO performing his own transcription of Weber’s Bassoon Concerto for the Contrabassoon. Brock has a growing collection of bassoons (13 to date) which he enjoys playing in various modern and historically based ensembles and is a founding member of Unholy Rackett, a group specialising in music for curtals and racketts from the renaissance and early baroque.
Janis Cook
is a pianist and concert curator based in Melbourne. Her extensive chamber
repertoire can be heard in leading ensembles such as MSO Chamber Players and her own Cook & Co. curations. Janis has appeared as soloist with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and community orchestras in major works by Hindemith, Grainger, Field, Mozart and others. As regular principal pianist with the Melbourne Symphony—on stage, in direct broadcasts, on CD and on tours to Japan, Europe and Russia— Janis liaised with many of the world’s greatest conductors, not only in performance but also behind the scenes in preparatory rehearsals with renowned guest artists. As a session
player, Janis has contributed to numerous film soundtracks including Babe, Cosi and The Dish. An experienced teacher, adjudicator and examiner, Janis is the author of The Rest: for pianists, a ground-breaking resource of study material.
