Big Weather is a timely exhibition that recognises the sophisticated appreciation of weather systems that exists within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge. Bringing together a significant selection of works drawn from the NGV Indigenous Collection, Big Weather shares stories of creation to illustrate how landscapes were formed and sacred waterways are refreshed and refilled. The exhibition features momentous works including Thunderman raining down by Yolngu artist Nonggirrnga Marawilli and Rockholes and Country near Kata Tjuta by Pitjantjatjarra artist Bill Whiskey alongside works that explore the impact of big weather on Country with a new commission by Yorta Yorta artist, Treahna Hamm, which tells the story of the recent destructive bushfires and a series of photographs showing the flooding of Barkindji Country by Nici Cumpston.
Big Weather includes exceptional examples of weaving by Ngarrindjeri master weaver, Yvonne Koolmatrie, and a new series of woven shields by Yorta Yorta/Taungurung artist Donna Blackall. Blackall’s shields represent both the elemental aspects of nature and the language groups of the Kulin Nations. Big Weather also includes an outstanding new acquisition from the iconic photographic series by Michael Riley, titled Untitled from the series cloud (cow), 2000 which is accompanied by a number of works that discuss important relationships with animals including a fierce looking echidna by Lena Yarinkura and Dhanalgaw thamai (Cultural shift), depicting the magnificent dugong by Badhulga/Maluyigal artist Laurie Nona who is based on Badu Island in the Torres Strait. The exhibition showcases works by artists from diverse Indigenous communities with many presenting unique interpretations of ancestral spirit beings who summon the rain, hail and seasonal storms that feed into our rivers, revive the landscape and nourish wildlife. By acknowledging weather systems as indicators of change across different landscapes, we are able to look further at the idea of change across many facets of our lives, how change affects us, how we adapt and how knowledge of the past can inform our shared future.
Art is an important instrument for the exchange of cultural information, by documenting stories and monitoring specific environments, we learn about the cyclical nature of the Australian landscape. Through creative expression, we can discuss the delicate balance of our living and breathing planet and the consequences of fires and storms as well as the ever-present dread of climate change. Weather systems are a key way of understanding entire ecologies, based on the intimate cultural knowledge passed down by Ancestors and continued through relationships with Country that have been refined over generations. This foundational understanding of our diverse ecosystems is imperative for our future survival. Big Weather tells an important story through a diverse offering of work that reflects the wide-ranging nature of contemporary Indigenous art as represented in the NGV Indigenous Collection.

She-Oak and Sunlight: Australian Impressionism is a large-scale exhibition of more than 250 artworks drawn from major public and private collections around Australia, including the NGV Collection. Featuring some of the most widely recognisable and celebrated works by Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Jane Sutherland, Arthur Streeton, Charles Conder, Clara Southern, John Russell and E. Phillips Fox, the exhibition also brings to light lesser-known paintings by Iso Rae, May Vale, Jane Price and Ina Gregory. She-Oak and Sunlight presents these works in new and surprising contexts, exploring the impact of personal relationships, international influences and the importance of place on the trajectory of the movement. Highlights from the exhibition include Tom Roberts’s iconic Shearing the rams, 1890, which depicts sheep shearers plying their trade in a timber shearing shed, and Clara Southern’s An old bee farm, Warrandyte, c.1900, a nostalgic vision of the landscape, painted in a soft palette of twilight tones. Following a complex conservation treatment, visitors are also able to appreciate the newly vivid colours of the Hawkesbury River as depicted in Arthur Streeton’s The purple noon’s transparent might, 1896.
She-Oak and Sunlight charts the creative exchanges between the movement’s leading figures in Australia, by presenting artworks in thought provoking groups and pairings. The exhibition also considers the broader global context, personal relationships and artistic synergies of Australian Impressionists and those working internationally, juxtaposing Australian artworks with those by Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, James Abbott McNeill Whistler and others drawn from the NGV Collection. She-Oak and Sunlight: Australian Impressionism is guest curated by Dr Anne Gray AM with the NGV Australian Art Department.

A poetic blending of the personal and political, Skies of Lebanon combines live action with animation to create a vivid picture of Lebanon, inspired by the family history of filmmaker Chloé Mazlo. Using stories told to her by her grandmother of life during the Lebanese Civil War, Mazlo crafts a touching and heart-breaking story of love during wartime. Alba Rohrwacher (Happy as Lazzaro) plays Alice, a Swiss woman who moved to Beirut in the 1950s and falls in love with a Lebanese man. Wajdi Mouawad (author of the play Incendies, which was the source material for Denis Villeneuve’s 2010 film) plays Joseph, an astrophysicist with dreams of sending his fellow citizens into space, and the object of Alice’s affection. Joseph and Alice appear to lead the perfect life until their bliss is ripped apart by the civil war and nothing will be the same again.
An official selection for the 2020 Cannes International Critics’ Week, Skies of Lebanon stunningly gives shape to the emotional undercurrents felt by the characters through the use of animation. This rewarding and quietly devastating cinematic experience announces Mazlo’s arrival as an important new talent.

On the music scene since 64. Suzi Q is still going strong to this very day. Her newest album is being released on March 26th.
Suzi Q is an amazing talent. I admire her work, so . This current album has been dubbed one of her best yet. Critics reviewers and people who worked on her previous album, had stated that perhaps she couldn't surpass her last effort with her son. They believe she has though ! I think she's done it, also. Sensational guitar playing, Original and clever lyrics ensue. Suzi has played glam, hard and pop rocks, throughout her stellar career. An absolute Professional, Suzi's magnetic personality, style, and iconic performances shine through on her fascinating new album.
Highly recommended for all fans and anyone who like her genres, and music. What a skilled artistic lady, she is.
The new album was created with her son, Richard Tuckey. " The Devil in me" title track is energetic and buoyant. The song "Hey Queenie" makes me wonder who the song is about, Suzi herself? Glycerine Queen rates a mention too.
So diverse is the album, I'm suitably impressed by the tale of " Betty Who"." You can't dream it " move to the beat. Next up, "My heart and Soul, " is a moving love story, piece. " Do ya Dance" is lively, and upbeat, as is the "Get outta Jail '' song.
"Isolation Blues", is a rhythm and blues track, how divergent." I Sold my soul" is next, a rock and roll track to toe tap too. "Loves gone bad," " in the Dark" and "Motor City Riders", are the final tracks on the album.
Love this album, and all the assorted music it contains. In the words of Molly please " do yourself a favour" and have a listen to the great master, that is, the one and only, Suzi Q. Meaning to be on tour last year Suzi's son and Suzi made the most of lockdown to write and record this latest vibrant addition to her repertoire. The pair were certainly anything but idle.!.
