Eight years later, Stranger Things are happening. Kate Bush is topping the charts. AFTER AIDA - A Comedy with Music
DATE: 20-22 May 2022 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
LOCATION: Athenaeum Theatre 2, 188 Collins St, Melbourne, VIC, 3000
WEBSITE AND TICKETS: https://www.pureharmonymusic.com.au/.../after-aida-a...
Five actors, four-opera singers, and one iconic opera in the making. A Live reading/concert. Brought to you by Circle in the Sand and Pure Harmony Music & Events Directed by David Meadows Musical Direction by Adrian Tamburini
It is 1879. Giuseppe Verdi, Italy’s greatest and most beloved composer, has not written an opera for nearly a decade. What is to be done? Verdi's closest associates, publisher Giulio Ricori and conductor Franco Faccio are determined to get the Maestro working again.
With the aid of Verdi's wife, Giuseppina, they conspire to team him with the brilliant operatic wordsmith, Arrigo Boito, and the greatest tragic opera ever written - Otello - is conceived. But trouble is looming. Boito hasn't always had nice things to say about Verdi. And at 66 years of age, the man himself isn't sure he can cut it anymore. Who said art was easy?
"....conceived with wit and clarity, written with singular style...infused with quality!" (Western Mail, UK) Julian Mitchell's play include the Olivier-Award-winning, "Another Country", "Francis" (about St Francis of Assisi), both of which starred Kenneth Branagh in their original West End runs, and "The Evils of Tobacco"; his screenplays include, "Vincent & Theo", "August", and "Wilde"; his novels include, "The White Father", "A Circle of Friends", and "The Undiscovered Country".

Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Zilla & Brook PR invite you to listen to:
Damian Callinan Double Feature | Melbourne International Comedy Festival
DATES: 31 March - 24 April
LOCATION: The Greek Centre Mykonos, 168 Lonsdale St, Melbourne
WEBSITE: https://www.comedyfestival.com.au/2022/shows/double-feature#
The surprise discovery of his mother’s 1946 diary leads three-time Barry Award nominee Damian Callinan on a cinematic, romantic romp through post-war Melbourne. However, her diary poses more questions than it does answers. With suitors lining up for 19-year-old Kathleen Purcell, will Jack Bowlen ever get the Canadian two step right? Will Ron Rogan keep his hands to himself? But most importantly for Damian’s very existence, will she notice the dapper fly boy who has just returned from active service?
His mother’s charming journal is hilariously contrasted with his father Adrian’s retirement diary that bookends his parent’s loving relationship and sadly, reveals the tragedy that brought it to an end. The creator and star of the Netflix hit film The Merger uses his powerful gift for storytelling to recast his parents in a funny and poignant double feature of love and loss.
All thanks to our friends at the festival management team Bohemian Rhapsody Weekly Magazine is proudly covering the festival. Please stay tuned for more information.
