eOne Films present a new drama called Wonder Wheel (dir. Woody Allen) with Kate Winslet, Justin Timberlake & Jim Belushi
in cinemas nationwide from December 7
WONDER WHEEL tells the story of four characters whose lives intertwine amid the hustle and bustle of the Coney Island amusement park in the 1950s: Ginny (Kate Winslet), an emotionally volatile former actress now working as a waitress in a clam house; Humpty (Jim Belushi), Ginny's rough-hewn carousel operator husband; Mickey (Justin Timberlake), a handsome young lifeguard who dreams of becoming a playwright; and Carolina (Juno Temple), Humpty's long- estranged daughter, who is now hiding out from gangsters at her father's apartment. Poetically photographed by Vittorio Storaro, WONDER WHEEL is a powerful dramatic tale of passion, violence, and betrayal that plays out against the picturesque tableau of 1950s Coney Island.

· we all know from our childhood that there are toys that go on Christmas tree, little we knew that the toys can have Christmas trees on them... till we saw this one at Chadstone The Fashion Capital today
destroying our 1/2 price yummiest salads at Soul Origin / Soul Origin Chadstone disturbing the crowds ( Entertainment Book special voucher yes please!) with Yulia Assatryan and Jennifer Zaman) with our loudness and movie-like-stories ... plus getting freaked out by the Christmas decorations at this scary place...
Dear Chadstobne, please forget us! We have never never never been there - we are not coming back too to your noisy corners of honey covered beehives... You are way too good for us!..

Oasis Bakery and Marwa's books

28/11/2017

...and you would never guess what...
Jennifer Zaman and I and always yours, Natasha Marchev after our millinery meeting decided to go around the Oasis Bakery shop to buy some yummy deli and snacks (Jenny was sooooooooooooooooo amazed with the size, variety, decorations and the quality of the gourmet products at this place that she said Arnie's famous: "I will be back!" I guess meaning with her personal assistant and by the the way her husband too, Ashish Hussain, Ashi, get ready!)
...Just as Jen was loudly pronouncing this phrase in front of the gorgeous serving dishes and crockery someone behind our shoulders softly said: " would you ladies love to have a basket?" while saying yes I suddenly realised something and my question: "excuse me , are you the owner of this place?" turned into her (warm again!): "yes and my name is Marwa. This is my book , please have a look.."
No matter how urgently we had to leave to our Chadstone nest meeting with Jenny we stayed for another hour. DonBella Beauty Pageant & Fashion Show got a new sponsor ( Ranz Bose, please sing a happy glory song for us while you have a shower tomorrow, or better a hymn - hahhahaha :)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOSfZa3Dzy4 "Glory!" by Mikhail Glinka ) and Bohemian Rhapsody Club and Online Magazine kindly got an offer too : a signed (in arabic language also) Marwa's book https://oasisbakery.com.au/products/yallateef-recipe-book
'Yallateef' Cookbook' - #MarwaMakool and an opportunity (we will get there later to cover Marwa's cooking classes) - something that I wanted to do for the last three years.
Marwa's book challenge is also taken by me - I am cooking three recipes out of it and publishing them step by step. What a woman, what a book! :) <3
More to that : Marwa's new book is coming out and we were the first lucky ones to see one out of two printed copies (!!!) Apparently it takes three years to make one book - the photos are so so so sensational it takes one day to create one recipe from this book!!!!!!
Marwa also personally invited us to the @OasisBakeryFair that runs today-tomorrow (Sat-Sun) from 1000am till 0400pm at the North Road address and everyone is invited - even the CAMELS who will be dressed and present there ...
no words - but I love the pure white magic created by us and I love camels most of all... no idea why... but I do ... well, let's say after Tosha and Dasha they must be my fav animals on this planet.

#McGillPublicity present SoFrenchy SoChic 2018
DATE: Sunday 14 January 2018
LOCATION: Werribee Park
OTHER LOCATIONS: Friday 12.01 — PINKY FLAT, Adelaide In partnership with Adelaide Festival Centre’s French Festival
Saturday 20.01 — BICENTENNIAL PARK Glebe, Sydney
WEB: http://www.sofrenchysochic.com.au/
MORE FUN. MORE FRENCHY.
GET READY TO WINE, DINE AND DANCE AGAIN WHEN SO FRENCHY SO CHIC RETURNS FOR ANOTHER SUMMER FESTIVAL OF PLEASURES.
IN 2018 THE BELOVED PARTY, PICNIC AND CELEBRATION OF JOIE DE VIVRE SPREADS THE LOVE TO ADELAIDE ALONGSIDE MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY,
WITH EVEN MORE MUSIC, FOOD AND FRIVOLITY – THE FRENCHY WAY OF COURSE.
LA MUSIQUE
A long time SFSC favourite, the Nigerian-born, French rapper FÉFÉ will take the stage with a brand new repertoire of chic Afro-influenced beats. Performing tracks from his 2017 album Mauve, Féfé will leave have audiences moving with his rhythmic repertoire and signature style, joy and je ne sais quoi.
Lovers of San Francisco’s Quannaum crew (Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, DJ Shadow and more) may already be familiar with the French-born Hervé Salters, aka GENERAL ELEKTRIKS. Boasting collaborations with Blackalicious, Femi Kuti and Mayer Hawthorne to name a few, we are very excited to bring his soulful, vintage funk-meets-jazz groove to Australia this summer.
Fronted by the enigmatic and poetic Fránçois Marry, the eclectic sound of FRÀNÇOIS & THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS offers a menagerie of influences from Afro-pop to French chanson, along with electronic guitar pop and a dream-like flair. While their sound may be hard to define, as those who caught their euphoric set at So Frenchy in 2015 know, they are a perfect fit for a summer’s day of dancing barefoot on the grass. (Performing at Melbourne and Sydney only.)
Both seductive and sweet, retro and modern, the très avant-garde JUNIORE is our super-stylish and Saint Laurent-approved addition to the So Frenchy lineup. Self-described as ‘désespérément optimistes’ (desperate optimists) we’d rather describe them as the lost connection between fashion, surf, psychedelic pop, spaghetti westerns and the nouvelle vague film movement. Big sound, big fun.
Pronounced ‘Elijay’, the three piece L.E.J has carved out a cult following with mesmerizing covers and originals, using three distinctive sounds: vocal harmonies, percussion and cello. Having broken through reinterpreting hits like Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ to ‘Panda’ by Desiigner with more than 150 million plays on Youtube, they’re now about to win Australian crowds with their own amazing compositions from their debut album.
LE MENU
Featuring the crème de la crème of the local French foodie scene, festival goers can look forward to wine, aperitifs and specialty bites such as mussels, oysters, crêpes, charcuterie, cheese platters, raclette, macaroons, ice cream and much more. For those who like to plan their picnic ahead of time, there are specially curated hampers to pre-order with tasty inclusions from roasted chicken or ratatouille baguettes to goose egg meringues and berry salad with cream fraiche, along with equally délicieux vegetarian and gluten free options. And what garden party would be complete without Champagne? The finest from Laurent Perrier will be chilled and flowing all day, as will French beer, rosé from Provence, reds and whites from Bordeaux, and special cocktails at the SFSC vintage caravan.
LA FAMILLE
So Frenchy has always been a family friendly event, with kids 12 and under welcome free of charge. If the tunes aren’t to the taste of your enfants at the Melbourne and Sydney events, there will be face painting, incredible bubble artists, drumming classes and lawn games like pétanque and croquet to keep them entertained.
LA JOIE DE VIVRE
In the past decade, So Frenchy So Chic has grown from a small series of concerts into one of summer’s most hotly anticipated boutique festivals. Styled in the theme of a fairy-tale estate in Provence, it’s always the next best thing to jetting off to Europe with superb food, wine, music and dancing in beautiful company.
We look forward to catching up this summer over a glass of rosé. See you there, mes amis!

An edited version of the film will be screening on ABCTV COMPASS October 21
About A Quest to Heal – Beyond the Physical
With compelling cinematography and a poetic visual style, A Quest To Heal – Beyond The Physical, reveals how healing is so much more than simply curing the physical body. It can be a self-empowering journey that begins from within, encompassing our mind, body and soul. The film inspires us to consider a healing of the future that integrates both western medicine and spirituality. In this moving documentary, Michelle follows the journey of two of her friends on a healing odyssey to Brazil to see controversial spiritual healer Joao Texeira de Faria. Also known as John of God he has been attributed to many miracles that science cannot explain and for the past 30 years thousands of people from all over the world have been flocking to his remote in search of cures for illnesses for which Western medicine offers little hope. The film follows Lya and Fred through the various healing processes consisting of meditation, prayer and procedures known as invisible spiritual operations. Energy is said to be the healing currency.

The Teacher

Palace Films present a new drama called The Teacher (2016 film) - it is a powerful film that triggered some philosopher out of me... have not wore that cap for a long time - so please read and enjoy if you can...
in cinemas November 23
From Oscar-nominated writer/director Jan Hřebejk (Divided We Fall), THE TEACHER is a wildly entertaining black comedy inspired by the true story of a Communist-era school teacher who manipulated her pupils and their families for unprecedented personal gain.
The early 1980s, Czechoslovakia. It’s the start of a new term at a suburban high school, and the seemingly empathetic new teacher Maria Drazdechova (Zuzana Maurery) greets her class. Soon after, she begins to pressure both students and parents by seeking personal favours. The rules are simple: you help her out, your children do well. You don't? Well, life can be hard for those deemed enemies of the state. But when a serious incident finally draws her unscrupulous behavior to the attention of her colleagues, the principal calls a secret meeting, seeking parents to sign a petition to move “Comrade Drazdechova" on from the school. But her high connections with the Communist Party hang above everyone in the room, and it’s soon evident that standing up for what’s right may be much easier said than done.

Fritz Lang 2016

28/11/2017

German Cinema Melbourne present new Fritz Lang (2016) - filmvetítés
in cinemas November 17 (festival opens)
One of the giants of German cinema, Fritz Lang, was a visionary director whose silent films (Metropolis, 1927 etc.), and many subsequent sound films, including M, which is featured in this film, highlight the rich history of German filmmaking. Gordian Maugg, who directed and co-wrote (with Alexander Hauesser) this 2016 narrative, focuses on Lang’s filming of the 1930 film M and his fascination with a real serial killer at the time, Kuerth (Samuel Finzi). The film uses both actual historic information and some fanciful speculation to portray Lang as both a brilliant director, but also fraught with some personal and psychological issues. Heino Ferch is superb as the complex Lang, while the rest of the cast, including Johanna Gastdorf as his wife Thea von Harbou, bring out the dramatic elements of the story. Shot in monochrome, and in 4:3 ratio, the film glistens, especially with the seamless integration of clips from Lang’s films, and other archival footage of Germany in the 1920s. A film that will certainly provoke a great deal of discussion.

Louis Theroux: DARK STATES Heroin Town

28/11/2017

Sharmill Films present a new documentary called Louis Theroux: DARK STATES Heroin Town
in cinemas November 17
Louis Theroux’s latest documentary Heroin Town, about the US’s opiate crisis, is heading to Australian cinemas along with exclusive footage and interviews with the acclaimed filmmaker. The special event screening is brought to Louis fans by BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand and Sharmill Films.
In a return to US territory for Theroux, Heroin Town explores the nation’s soaring addiction crisis, as seen through the eyes of the community of Huntington, West Virginia, a city stretched to its limits by widespread heroin use.
America’s love affair with prescription painkillers has led to a widespread dependency on opiates. But a crackdown on over-prescription means the pills are becoming increasingly expensive and scarce on the black market and vast numbers of Americans have turned to a cheaper, stronger alternative: heroin. The drug now claims more lives in the US than car accidents or gun crime, according to US Government data. For the first time in two decades, life expectancy in the US is declining – a drop in which the rise in fatal heroin overdoses is a significant factor.
In Huntington, Theroux, with his trademark warmth, empathy and candour, embeds himself among frontline emergency workers and a community ravaged by addiction. Such is the heroin crisis in the city, one in 10 babies are born addicted to opiates and it has a fatal overdose rate 13 times the national average.

Tree Summers

Transmission Films present a new Australian romantic comedy called Three Summers
in cinemas November 2
From internationally renowned writer director Ben Elton comes Three Summers, an ensemble comedy that embraces the diversity of modern Australia. At a summer music festival, the feisty lead singer of an Irish folk band (Rebecca Breeds) meets a folk music-hating Theremin player (Robert Sheehan) and sparks literally fly.
Characters surrounding this awkward romance include a fiercely Aussie Morris Dancer (Michael Caton), an Indigenous dance troupe, a group of wine-loving empty nesters, a power tripping security guard, a wannabe girl rock band and some musical asylum seekers. In fact, all manner of stories collide under the meddling eye of community radio super star, Queenie (Magda Szubanski), who welcomes the campers back three summers in a row for a folking good time.
Fusing romance, music and Ben Elton’s trademark wit and satirical edge, Three Summers delivers an engaging folk tale of contemporary Australia with the soundtrack and the belly laughs for the summer to come. Also starring Deborah Mailman, John Waters, Kelton Pell, Jacqueline McKenzie, Peter Rowsthorn and The Bondi Hipsters’ Christiaan Van Vuuren and Nick Boshier.
