Prize Fighter by Future D. Fidel DATES: Tuesday 9 – Sunday 14 October, Tuesday 16 – Saturday 20 October; Time: Tuesday – Saturday 8pm / Sunday 6pm VENUE: Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre, Main Hall 189 High St Northcote, VIC - Australia WEBSITE: http://www.northcotetownhall.com.au/Page/page.asp… TICKETS: https://sa2.seatadvisor.com/sabo/servlets/TicketRequest… Duration: 70mins. Get ringside for a rare theatrical combo: engrossing storytelling paired with the visceral thrill of live boxing. Future D. Fidel’s Prize Fighter tells a story of Isa, a Congolese boy who comes to Australia as a refugee escaping a brutal civil war and unspeakable horrors. Settling in Brisbane, he finds a passion and discipline in boxing. With Pacharo Mzembe bringing his own hard-earned boxing skills to the role of Isa, Prize Fighter is adrenaline-pumping, full-contact theatre at its best. On the line is a national title and the promise of fame and riches beyond Isa’s wildest dreams. Gearing up for the fight, he soon discovers it’s not just his opponents he has to surpass, but the demons from his torturous past as a boy soldier. Inspired by his own story and those of people he has known, Prize Fighter is the debut play of Fidel who was forced to flee the Democratic Republic of Congo as a child following the civil war in 1996. He and his siblings spent eight years in a Tanzanian refugee camp until being granted refugee status in Australia. This is knockout theatre in every sense. From fight choreography so visceral you'll feel every blow to writing that packs an emotional punch, Prize Fighter ducks and weaves with astonishing grace. Pacharo Mzembe (The Mountaintop, Underbelly, Gwen in Purgatory) performs alongside his brother, Gideon Mzembe. Both have strong sporting backgrounds - Pacharo with his years of boxing training and Gideon, a former professional rugby player with the Brisbane Broncos and Manly Sea Eagles. Melbourne Festival Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway said: ‘Prize Fighter is an incredible story told in the most thrilling of ways. Staged as a boxing match right in front of you, Fidel’s debut play tells a story with elements we know really well, but also surprise. The work is muscular and casts out all of the reservations people have of the arts, putting theatre into a boxing ring: the smell, the sound, the sight.’ ‘Prize Fighter is, in every respect, theatre that matters.’ – ABC Arts ‘The most perfectly structured, brilliantly produced and best-acted new play… Stunning blow from one-time boy soldier.’ – The Australian ‘The cast is superb, generating an electrifying physical energy that catches fire in the audience, who cheer throughout, just as they might in a stadium, unless they are rendered absolutely silent by one of its moments of theatrical beauty.’ – ABC News ‘Prize Fighter punches above its weight with the story of a former boy fighter.’ – The Sydney Morning Herald Tickets: Full $38, Concession/Student $33, Preview $25 Bookings: darebinarts.com.au or call (03) 9481 9500 Warnings: Violence, sexual references and adult themes. In charge of security in a hospital, he is esteemed both by his superiors and his fellow colleagues. Moreover he is a good father who, willing to be closer to his eleven-year-old son Julien, has chosen to be transferred to the town where the boy lives with his mother and his older sister Joséphine, soon to be of age. That is the very reason why Antoine, the caring father, is asking for joint custody of Julien. Well, all that would be fine provided Antoine actually was the man he claims to be. The trouble is that his wife and his two children see him in a very different light. For in the past, Antoine was far from an angel. On the contrary, he had a knack for creating an atmosphere of permanent fear at home, going as far as to occasionally beat his wife under his children's eyes. And he got away with it all the more easily as Miriam, wishing to avoid even more problems, never lodged a complaint against him please read our review published: http://bohemianrhapsodyclub.weebly.com/la-premiere.html trailer: Transmission Films and Miranda Brown Publicity present a new bio drama-comedy called Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot in cinemas September 27 On the rocky path to sobriety after a life-changing accident, John Callahan discovers the healing power of art, willing his injured hands into drawing hilarious, often controversial cartoons, which bring him a new lease on life. please read our review published: http://bohemianrhapsodyclub.weebly.com/la-premiere.html trailer: Sony Pictures and #NedAndCoPublicity present a new music drama called Hearts Beat Loud in cinemas September 6 A father and daughter form an unlikely songwriting duo in the summer before she leaves for college. please read #SamBell's review published: http://bohemianrhapsodyclub.weebly.com/la-premiere.html trailer: Cinema Nova present a new bio documentary called Won't You Be My Neighbor? Cinema Nova Exclusive, opens September 13 Charmingly soft-spoken and yet powerfully incisive expressing his profound ideals, Fred Rogers was a unique presence on television for generations. Through interviews of his family and colleagues, the life of this would-be pastor is explored as a man who found a more important calling to provide an oasis for children in a video sea of violent bombardment. That proved to be his landmark series, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1968), a show that could gently delve into important subjects no other children's show would have dared for that time. In doing so, Rogers experienced a career where his sweet-tempered idealism charmed and influenced the world whether it be scores of children on TV or recalcitrant authorities in government. However, that beloved personality also hid Rogers' deep self-doubts about himself and occasional misjudgments even as he proved a rock of understanding in times of tragedy for a world that did not always comprehend a man of such noble character. please read #SamBell's review published: http://bohemianrhapsodyclub.weebly.com/la-premiere.html trailer: on new shoot location search ... when there are more bees than sense in the trip :) but the amount of live flowers that you can touch after a long and cold winter is much more than the amount of the pages in the booklet about Yarra Valley traveling and these same flowers... when the amount of sun is still not enough to warm your up but the coffees and the olives are enough to do the job... #Spin DATES: Friday 21 September and Saturday 22 September TIME: 21 September 8pm, 22 September 2pm and 8pm VENUE: Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre WEBSITE: https://www.darebinarts.com.au/whats-on/spin-anna-seymour TICKETS: https://www.darebinarts.com.au/…/spin-anna-seym…/buy-tickets A dance party like no other. Created, directed and performed by Anna Seymour in collaboration with Bec Reid, dancers, Deaf Hosts and DJ Callum Padgham. Inspired by club scenes in San Francisco, Mexico, Cuba and Berlin, SPIN celebrates the physical and social experience of dance parties, subcultures and the beats that bring us together. Creator and performer Anna Seymour, dance participatory performance specialist Bec Reid, disc jockey DJ Callum Padgham, dancers Amanda Lever and Jon Clarke along with deaf hosts Luke King, Robbie Burrows and Tahlia Hais, send audiences spinning – literally – in this new participatory dance work, presented as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival 2018. SPIN challenges the understanding of how dance and music can be experienced. It offers the audience an immersive experience, combining visual and tactile elements of DJ music from DJ Callum Padgham, sound vibration design from Russell Goldsmith, visual projections from Rhian Hinkley and dance performance from various artists. “With SPIN my desire was to blur boundaries between performers and audiences, shift perspectives about Deaf people and dance and music, to engage more with community and people and break down physical and communication barriers in society,” said Anna Seymour, who herself was born profoundly deaf. "In 2017, I performed at the International Bay Area Deaf Dance Festival in San Francisco. An experience that had a huge impact on me was the closing party. The DJ was Deaf. The dance floor was packed full of Deaf people. I will never forget the exhilaration of dancing in a group that was held and led by Deaf people. That experience inspired me to re-create an experience for audiences in Melbourne and Australia,” Seymour added. As a contemporary dancer, Anna has worked with Ballet Lab and KAGE as well as numerous independent choreographers and she made her choreography debut in 2016 with her Melbourne Fringe Festival dance work, Distraction Society. She also co-founded The Delta Project - a Melbourne-based dance collective of deaf and hearing performers that performed in Deafferent Theatre’s first performance, Black is the Colour, which earned her a Green Room nomination for Best Performer in Independent Theatre. In 2017, Anna had her seven-story high mural painted by Guido van Helten in Prahran. Anna was awarded two residencies in New York and Berlin. SPIN is presented at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre as part of Darebin Arts Speakeasy’s A WEEKEND FOR EVERY BODY program with access and inclusion at its heart. SPIN marks Anna’s return to Melbourne Fringe Festival where her first work, Distraction Society, played in 2016 to critical success.
