Backlot Films is proud to announce its latest release, the critically acclaimed SIMSHAR, inspired by one of Malta’s greatest recent tragedies, will be released nationally in Australia on October 1.

Writer/director, Rebecca Cremona will support the release with a promotional 
tour that will see her showcase her film around the country, conducting media 
interviews and Q&A screening events in selected locations.

Based upon astonishing true events, likely to resonate with Australian audiences, SIMSHAR tells two parallel stories of survival at sea which unravel on and around the Mediterranean island of Malta, culminating when a Maltese fishing family is left stranded in open water after being mistaken for African migrants.

The turmoil and hardship of human migration is played out on this small island between two continents. Today’s ongoing – and often tragic – migrant mass crossings from Africa to Europe across the Mediterranean make SIMSHAR a pertinent and timely story.

This is the first international feature film to come out of Malta, and was shot entirely on the island. SIMSHAR was also selected as Malta’s first official entry for Best Foreign Language Film in the 87th Academy Awards® and the first feature film from Malta to enter the international market.

Marta Kubišová is an icon of the Prague Spring and the most popular singer in Czechoslovakia in the mid-late 1960s, after being an early adopter of the rock ‘n’ roll musical idioms of the West.

However, Kubišová was forced to disappear from public view after 1968, owing to her unstinting dissidence towards the communist regime, only re-emerging during the Velvet Revolution in 1989.

Veteran filmmaker Olga Sommerová’s documentary, full of terrific archival footage, is a wonderful profile of a fascinating woman who endures as a symbol of freedom in the post-Revolutionary Czech and Slovak Republics as well as an excellent potted history of the ’60s to the current day in those same nations. And, of course, it has a fantastic soundtrack!

Yesterday's event at the Bohemian Rhapsody Club was probably one of the best we had in years.

First of all I would like to that Fiona Joy and Sherry Finzer Music for making the evening so special with their fine and healing music. As I mentioned already both composes reach the realms with the highest vibrations where you feel so calm and balanced the words turn into the unwanted feature of reality and silence of the mind opens the doors to the most beautiful songs of the soul, Thank you so much for your music. girls!

Max Davine's new book presentation went very well, I trust the Dino Hunt will leave the amazon's shelves in a couple of days after as the ingenious of the author, the depth of his ideas and thoughts will be one of so many reasons the readers would love to absorb and learn, discuss and love, own and share such a creating writing. Also very grateful that Max's publisher joined us on the day: Chris Jackson at ASJ Publishing

I also would love to thank Natalie Volyanska's colorful performance and her astonishing dancing skills. I was also speechless a yesterday I found some interesting facts from Natalie's biography that made me so respectful to this young and hard working girl.

As you all know the most sweet and most delicious part of the dinner should always go at the desert time. We started with this dish but the appetizer obviously made all our guests so full of emotions and positive vibes that we had to take a break and a breath of fresh air. I did not see the show but sometime after I was told by one of the observers: "It is such a pity you did not see the faces of the people who were watching the catwalk: their jaws simply dropped in excitement..." - excitement of amazing garments and the beauty of the girls who were showcasing them.
