#MAP57
Take one triangle of inner city seaside land, fill it with savvy small bars, luscious food stalls, an antique Spiegeltent, a slick music and comedy room full of stunning shows, carnival rides, a Central Park style ice rink, sparkling lights and roaring fires and you have the warmth and wonder of MAP 57 – St Kilda’s Winter Garden.
Presented by The Gardeners of Unearthly Delights, MAP 57 will host six weeks of cabaret, music, comedy and school holiday shenanigans.
At the centre of this pop up precinct sits The Aurora Spiegeltent, a stunning antique European performance tent featuring international hit show, BLANC de BLANC and for the kids, The Funatorium Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, which comes direct from a sell-out season at the Sydney Opera House.
The second performance space, The Box, will host a line up of sensational Australian music including The Black Sorrows, Vika and Linda, Russell Morris, Renee Geyer and comedians Fiona O’Loughlin, Heath Franklin for a healthy does of humour and an array of school holiday performance treats for the little revellers including the joyous NT dance troupe Djuki Mala and Peter Combe’s Live It Up and Bellyflop in a Pizza.
For the past 17 years, The Gardeners (Buxton Walker and Strut & Fret Production House) have presented Australia’s biggest independent live arts carnival, The Garden of Unearthly Delights in Adelaide. The Garden has inspired like events across the globe including The Assembly Gardens in Edinburgh and the Underbelly Festival Southbank London. The Garden of Unearthly Delights attracts more than 750,000 every year and is a major part of Adelaide’s summer festival season.
