Join the celebration of 10-year anniversary of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2019! The night will commence with a grand inauguration by our chief guest, internationally beloved star - Shah Rukh Khan. Commemorating a dynamic line up of mainstream Indian cinema, arthouse and Indie movies, short films and documentaries – this years’ theme of ‘Courage’ resonates with cast and crew alike in each of these silver screen creations. To celebrate this milestone, we are screening the highly anticipated Australian Premiere of Rima Das’ incredible film ‘Bulbul Can Sing’.
"I met our protagonist Bulbul while shooting Village Rockstars and was able to connect this internal journey about the trilogy, to explore teenage feelings and thoughts, researched by interacting with the village teenagers, issues they face in school and surroundings and their life in general. First love, the experience of it, outcome – be it positive or negative and how it impacts one’s journey of life, came across to me as a story worth telling.” Rima Das
BULBUL CAN SING, Rima Das’ third feature film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2018, in the Contemporary World Cinema section. Followed by the Asian Premier at Busan International Film Festival and will be having its European premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival (Generation 14 section) 2019. Bulbul Can Sing is about Bulbul, a young girl, living in a village in Assam, India, fighting her way through love and loss as she figures out who she really is!
The Festival is ecstatic to screen it at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne as the Opening Night Film, with Ms Das in attendance for a Q&A afterwards.
