THE EVENT
This is the BIG ONE. Come and help celebrate the start of another great year with all things lavender. Music, dance, workshops and demonstrations, puppets shows, artisan stalls, tours of the original farmhouse and great food, including lavender ice cream.
Lavandula's Lavender Harvest festival is a celebration of all things lavender, and it's an opportunity for visitors to discover the many processes and uses of this wonderful plant. The process includes harvesting with hand sickles, bunching for drying, winnowing the flowers and seeds, and distilling for essential oil and floral water. Its uses are many and varied from dried flower arrangements, filling potpourri satchels, culinary lavender used in cooking and lavender oil and water for therapeutic and medicinal use. A lavender harvest is not complete without the festive energy of our local Morris Dancers, Brandragon.
Special guest, Pepita Emmerichs of Oh Pep!, will be filling the lavender scented air with her dynamic brand of folk music (see description above). A local lass who has made a huge impact on the world stage! Join one of the rural demonstrations from lavender distilling, lavender wand making or wool spinning. Come and say hi to our local artisan blacksmith, who is sure to amaze you with his fine metal constructions.
For the children there will be pony rides, puppet shows and a face painter. Artisan stallholders will have their amazing products for sale. There will be food from our massive wood-fired oven, an Italian-style BBQ and our festival-sized paella. Plus many more options, including lavender scones and lavender ice cream.
The original 1860s farmhouse will be open for tours by original descendants, Faye & Boyd.
A great day for the whole family.
Entry fee: $6 per adult / $2 per school-aged child
Dogs welcome on leash.
THE FARM
Ten minutes North of Daylesford, Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm is nestled amongst the rolling hills of Shepherds Flat. One of Victoria's most important rural properties, Lavandula boasts European-style gardens planted out to frame and meander around the original 1850s stone buildings. Productive vegetable and herb gardens supply the cafe, La Trattoria. Lavender provides quality materials for the creation of farm-made body lotions and creams, room mists and insecticides, and essential oil. When you cross the ford, park your car and walk toward the Barn, you're greeted with acres of sprawling gardens and majestic trees. Every season reveals Lavandula in a different light: autumn turns the leaves ruby and gold; winter brings rain that fills the creek; spring delivers an endless chorus of flowers and birdsong; and summer is all about lavender.
The historic Barn is home to our gift shop and history room. We stock a huge range of homewares, quirky gifts and our full range of farm-made products. You can make a purchase by either visiting us, calling us or placing an order via our online shop.
