Erkin Kalayci - anatomy of an artist
My experience with red indians is quite limited: I had an enlightening experience with Queensland base Bobby Running Fox in 2001 and had a pleasure meeting with Cherokee tribe leaders back in 2003 which was also quite a powerful encounter full of magical revelations. Nevertheless the one that I am talking about now, the red indian has it all: Big Ear, Big Nose and Big Eyes. I call him Erkin Big Everything
He has eye for beauty I envy. I take my photos at the same event with him. I think I am good and I have a good vision. My photos downgrade so much as I find them primitive compared with his vision: so cool, so unpredictable and so "big eye" perspective/eyesight angle this man has... I envy him. I do.... I will never see it the way he sees it - this is why he is an artist and I am not. That's the eye.
He has the ears too: he plays a guitar, writes music, sings, his voice brings sadness and joy to your heart It disturbs. His voice tells you a story in his language. You might not understand the voice, but he will tel you the idea of the song and you make up the rest of it yourself. It is like reading a good book that only gives you the paint-brush-strokes of something but not the full picture - you draw the rest in your mind and use your imagination to complete it. When the picture is finished - you feel that you are part of the writing process, the one with the author - that makes reading the books so exciting ,so are his songs. That's about the ear.
He has a big nose.... I really did not know what to write on this to be honest.... as he really has a big nose..... and then I thought: bingo: he also cooks so so so well... Once he and his beautiful petite wife Tugba invited us for dinner. I will never forget it: we sat at the table with the menu (one off graphically designed and telling us exactly what goes when and after what and all the ingredients of the entree, salads, mains, vodka and deserts) the dinner was upstairs and my jaw was downstairs - this is for sure. But we did not want to leave their house where every item and every corer tells you a story from the owners' lives: one more exciting than the other. That is the nose for you.
He has ideas too but this is another story for two more pages...
Shall I stop here..?. as my wordings can run long but it is better be seen, heard and smelled... [seen] the photography and graphical art works, [heard] is talk and and sing, and [smelled] - the aroma of his cooking...
he speaks many languages, he is happy in love - one can tell and
...last one: BIG HEART!
I publish here a bit of an extract from our mad night as this is all I could record to remember ,some of his photos and well sorry but if you expected any food - there will be none here as (remember!) you are on facebook and it is not real.... it is only in your head.
