CELEBRATING 100 YEARS OF #ARMENIAN CINEMA: THE 7TH ANNUAL ARMENIAN #FILM FESTIVAL RETURNS TO SYDNEY & MELBOURNE
The Armenian Film #Festival Australia returns for its 7th edition to Melbourne and Sydney, under the patronage of former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian, this year celebrating an iconic 100 years of Armenian Cinema.
Featuring a slate of nine impressive feature films and six short films, spanning multiple genres, the festival includes opening film - Amerikatsi - the story of a genocide survivor who returns to Armenia to be greeted with the harsh reality of Soviet Communism and Armenia's submission to the 95th Academy Awards, Aurora's Sunrise - a unique hybrid documentary which tells the story of a genocide survivor turned #Hollywood silent movie star, sharing her story on a global stage.
Co-founders and Co-directors of the Armenian Film Festival, Margaret Chater and Hourie Demirjian said: "We are so proud to welcome back the Armenian Film Festival for a seventh year, particularly in celebrating a century milestone of Armenian Cinema. Each year, we are overwhelmed with the quality and story-telling of the films we showcase and this year in particular, we take great pride in embracing and sharing our Armenian history and heritage with all Australians."
For the first time, the Armenian Film Festival program includes a filmmaker talk In Conversation with Zareh Nalbandian, an intimate discussion with Co-founder of the ground-breaking Animation Studio, Animal Logic, and Founder and CEO of Animal Logic Entertainment. Driving a meaningful conversation on the opportunities and challenges of producing independent films for global audiences. Mr. Nalbandian is dedicated to fostering talent through mentorship. Up and coming filmmakers and students are invited to hear from his vast experience. The session will take place on Sunday, 10 September at 3:30pm at Event Cinemas, Top Ryde.
Another first as part of the program, a stand-up comedy act to support a film screening. One of the UK's most prominent entertainers, Kev Orkian, who has performed alongside celebrities such as Lionel Ritchie and Dame Edna and for troops in Afghanistan and the Royal Family, will be in Melbourne and Sydney for the World Premiere of his film - Ararat Uncovered. As part of a special double feature for Closing Night, Mr. Orkian will also perform his stand-up #comedy COVID MOVID!
