About the concert
In our last concert for 2018, we feature the culmination of Germanic Classical and Romantic expression with Haydn’s and Brahms' last symphonies and Strauss' Four Last Songs, each one a masterwork in its own right. We are thrilled to present expatriate Australian soprano Miriam Gordon-Stewart, an acclaimed Strauss and Wagner interpreter. She has sung in major opera houses in Hamburg, Berlin, Paris and Sydney and at the Bayreuth Festival.
Haydn’s final symphony, the London, was composed while he was living in the British capital. And Brahms’ monumental Fourth Symphony is acknowledged as one of the most masterful examples of this form.
